Education: B.M., Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, 1974; M.M., University of Texas at Austin, 1976; advanced graduate studies, University of Houston, 1977-81.
Prizes and Awards: Winner, United States Artistic Ambassador Auditions, Washington, D.C., 1983; first-prize in Bach performance category, International Piano Recording Competition, 1979; Grammy Award nominee, 1990; Texas Music Teachers Association Collegiate Teacher of the Year Award, 1991; University of Houston Enron Teaching Excellence Award, 1994-95.
Performances: Numerous solo recitals and orchestral appearances throughout the U.S. and in twelve foreign countries, including those of Europe, the Netherlands, Asia, Russia, Central America, and the West Indies. Solo debut recital, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, D.C., 1988. Featured artist at state MTNA conventions of New York, Texas, Arkansas, Arizona, New Mexico, and national convention, 1991. Lecturer, World Piano Pedagogy Conference, 1999. Frequent master classes and competition adjudication throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Professional Affiliations: Guest faculty, Sungshin Women's University, Seoul, Korea, 1998; Guest faculty, Royal Academy of Music, London, 1997; Director, Texas Music Festival Piano Institute, 1992- present; Guest faculty at numerous summer festivals, including Eastman School of Music, 1993.
Teaching Success : Current and former students have won prizes in state, national, and international competitions; several are under professional artist management; Many are successful private and collegiate teachers in the U.S. and abroad. |
